My Greatest Achievements

Our latest blog challenge is: What is your greatest achievement...in your eyes what do you feel you have done in your life that you are the proudest about?

I have done many things in my life that I am proud of. Some are big and some are small. I have also done many things in my life that I am not proud of, but thankfully, that's not what this blog is about.

I have done a lot of volunteer work. Everything from school oriented volunteer projects, church volunteer projects, community projects, and even small things. I think I am prouder of the smaller things. Things like stopping and picking up the trash that people have left on the side of the road. Things that never get recognition, but I hope that I am setting an example that my son and future children will learn and live by.

I did four years in the military after high school. I am very proud of this accomplishment. I can remember getting my ass handed to me in boot camp, and thinking that I would never make it, and I did. It's still really wierd when people thank me for my service. I didn't make near the sacrifices that many other military members have. Many of our soldiers have given their lives for our country. Many mothers, fathers, children will never see their loved ones again. While I don't feel like a hero, I am proud that I did something that many people never thought I could do. Not only did I do my time in the service, but I enjoyed it. I met so many remarkable people, and I learned so much.

There are many other things that I am proud of. I have always made good grades. I am a pretty good friend, although I probably don't keep in touch as well as I like. I'm a good person, and I don't like mean people, or bullies. I stand up for what I believe in. I try very hard to not be judgemental, and to be understanding. I am good to Trey, and I'm a good mother.

All of these things make me proud. But none of them are my greatest achievement. As cheesy as this sounds, I think that my son is my greatest accomplishment. Having a child is a huge responsibility. Choosing to raise a child, and teaching a child right from wrong is a huge role. Being the person that a child looks up to is an overwhelming duty. While as a parent, there are times when a person cannot control the person that their child becomes, most of the time a parent can control that. At some point a parent is no long responsible for the person that their child is, but to a certain extent they can steer their child down the right road. I think that Liam and even any future children will be my greatest achievement, if I take the role of parenting seriously. My actions are important. I know this is terribly cheesy, but this small, little boy is everything that I had ever hoped for and wanted. He is a miracle, and he has changed my entire world.

  1. Any one that serves our country should be thanked. Anyone that has been the spouse of someone that has served our country should be thanked. DH did 20 years and was by his side for 17 of those. Not everyone can do either of these duties. So Thank You.

And yes I agree, creating and raising a child is definately one of the greatest acheivements a person can have.

  2. You have achieved great things and you should be proud. My husband gets thanked all the time for his service to our country (he was in the Air Force for 20.5 years) and he never once served in a conflict but he was ready to do so if required of him and I think that is a sacrifice as well.

I totally agree with you that being a parent is a great achievement if you approach it in the right way, and I think that Liam and any future child are lucky to have a Mom like you :)

  3. I'm in agreement that anyone who served our country should be thanked too. That's one of the things we teach every one of our Girl Scouts...that all military personal our heroes and we should be thankful for them.

I'm all for getting good grades as being a major accomplishment...but I'm a school based nerd that way!

  4. Oh so true! And I agree that all servicemen and women should be thanked. What an awesome responsibility and service you have done and given. Sounds like Liam has a great role model!

  5. You know all those tiny seemingly insignificant things turn out to be one massive great achievement - you're too hard on yourself, and you are one special person for serving for your country!
